UPDATE: Watch the full Jared Leto interview above now

Jared Leto has taken home a slew of acting awards from a Golden Globe to a SAG Award to a Critic's Choice trophy for his celebrated performance as Rayon, an AIDS-positive transgendered woman in 2013's Dallas Buyers Club. Soon, we'll find out if he'll walk away with the Oscar.

Fuse News caught up with the 30 Seconds to Mars frontman about his return to the movie world—it's been six years since his last film, Chapter 27—and why he was so eager to play this character.

"I hadn't made a film in so long, I didn't know if I'd ever make a film again," Leto tells us. "I'm really glad that I did, I'm glad that it was Dallas Buyers Club. I couldn't even think of a better way to return to film than this."
