Last night, Sam Smith, aka Taylor Swift's "favorite new artist," performed on Saturday Night Live and impressively belted out two beautiful, heart-wrenching numbers.
The British singer began with a stunning rendition of "Stay With Me," his first single off of his debut album In the Lonely Hour, featuring a church choir. "Lay Me Down," his second performance of the night, was an acoustic, stripped-down song, backed by a piano and cello. SNL marked Smith's second U.S. televised performance. His first was earlier this year on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, where he performed "Latch," his breakthrough collaboration with Disclosure.
Smith must have won over U.S. audiences with his performance last night, because soon after his set, he was trending on Twitter and his debut album climbed to number 8 on iTunes. Smith was ecstatic, obviously. Check out his performances below.
