DJ E-Z Rock of "It Takes Two" Fame Dies at 46
Hip hop legend DJ E-Z Rock—born Rodney Bryce—passed away Sunday, April 27. He was 46 years old. The cause of death has yet to be revealed.
E-Z Rock is best known for his 1988 hit "It Takes Two" as part of the Harlem duo Rob Base & DJ E-Z Rock. The single peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard Dance chart and hit No. 4 on the R&B chart, eventually going multi-platinum. The song's James Brown-sampling "Yeah! Woo!" section—taken from the 1972 song "Think (About It)"—became one of the most instantly recognizable samples of the era.
Long time collaborator Rob Base paid his condolences via instagram, posting a picture of the late MC with the caption, "R.I.P Skip (DJ E-Z Rock) my friend. My brother."
Other pioneers of the genre have done the same, DJ Scratch posting "Rest In Peace DJ EZ Rock," and Biz Markie tweeting, "R.I.P. TO EZ ROCK FROM ROB BASE AND EZ ROCK YOU WILL TRULY BE MISSED. ."
