Clay Aiken Wins Congressional Race After Opponent Found Dead
Clay Aiken is moving on as the Democratic candidate for a seat in Congress after his opponent Keith Crisco was found dead earlier today. The Courier-Tribune reports that the 71-year-old candidate was found at his home; there's no official cause of death, but reports say that he "fell" around 1 pm Monday afternoon.
Crisco and Aiken were locked in a "too-close-to-call" race, with the former American Idol star leading by just 369 votes. According to Mashable, they both were waiting for the final counts to come in before deciding next steps.
Aiken released a statement today saying that Crisco was "a gentleman, a good and honorable man and an extraordinary public servant."
Aiken will now face Republican incumbent Renee Ellmers this fall for the U.S. house District 2 seat.
