Update 6/19: According to MTV, Clear Channel announced this morning that Angie Martinez will join the staff at Power 105.1 in New York, a long-standing rival of Hot 97. She'll host a new afternoon radio show that will also be broadcast on Miami's 103.5 The Beat.

6/18 Story: Longtime Hot 97 DJ Angie Martinez resigned today. She made the announcement this afternoon via Twitter and Instagram, saying her time there was "immeasurable" and it was one of the "toughest decisions" she's had to make.

"Ultimately it is time to move on, to grow and to be challenged in new ways," she wrote. "Saying goodbye is always emotional and bittersweet but I am extremely excited about the future. Thank you HOT97 and most importantly....the listeners... for an unimaginable journey. Today will be my last show ... stay tuned."

No word yet as to her next move, but considering that her afternoon show "Afternoon Drive" has been ranked No. 1 for years, it's not hard to imagine she'll wind up somewhere soon.

A former singer and rapper, Martinez has been a consistent influence in hip-hop culture over the last 15 years. Here's the picture she Instagrammed with her announcement:
