Nicki Minaj caused quite the stink at last weekend's BET Awards, accepting an award with a controversial speech. "What I want the world to know about Nicki Minaj is that when you hear Nicki Minaj spit, Nicki Minaj wrote it," she said. It was immediately taken as throwing shade at Iggy Azalea.
This upset the "Pills N Potions" singer, who addressed the assumption—and media misunderstanding in general—on Twitter.
She first wrote, "The media puts words in my mouth all the time and this is no different. I will always take a stance on women writing b/c I believe in us!" Followed with, "I believe we're smart enough to write down our own thoughts and perspective, just like the men do. I've been saying this for 5 YEARS," before praising some of hip hop's greatest female voices. Preach!
