The Hunger Games may be all about Katniss and her fierceness, but Lorde is stealing some serious focus from the movie itself as the Mockingjay - Part 1 soundtrack just keeps getting better and better in the weeks leading up to the theatrical release.
The New Zealander is curating the music that backs the YA epic, and her cover of Bright Eyes' "Ladders" is the most approachable addition to the soundtrack yet. Breathy vocals, haunting organs and a warble eerily similar to Conor Oberst's give the cutting words an appropriate update, and it's easy to picture the mellow tune floating behind some major Mockingjay plot points.
While Mockingjay tracks from Ariana Grande, Diplo and Tinashe have surfaced, the majority of the headline-grabbing music from the film is made up of songs performed by Lorde herself. She sings the lead single from the soundtrack, "Yellow Flicker Beat," and the tune must really resonate with the movie as Kanye West's minimalist re-work of it is also included on the record.
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 opens on November 21, and its Lorde-curated/Lorde-lovin' soundtrack hits stores November 17.
