"I've never played by myself on a stage before, and I've never played a song that I've only played in my living room before, so I'm a little nervous!"
Miley Cyrus had what appears to be a great time at Miami's Art Basel (just click through her Instagram!), but she took a brief moment during her set last week to try some new material out on the crowd—and the tone of new track "The Twinkle Song" is definitely a somber one that hit a serious note during the festivities.
"I write about death a lot, randomly, but my friend, she lost her cat, and I had these crazy dreams the night her cat died," she said, sitting down at the piano. "I feel like her cat kind of told me what to say to her to get her through it."
What followed was a touching, psychedelic tribute that only Miley could pull off. Once at the piano, Miley started recounting said dream, which involves both David Bowie and Gumby in some capacity, all set to a simple, sweet piano melody. It's a far cry from the rambunctiousness of Bangerz' party anthems, but these breaks from Miley's #turnt norm make for gorgeous moments of musical artistry.
Check out Miley's "Twinkle Song" above, and keep your fingers crossed that more new tuneage from the singer/fake denture designer will be dropping in the not-so-distant future.
