UPDATE: No more waiting—Lil Wayne's new mixtape Sorry 4 the Wait 2 is here. The set features an all-star cast including Drake, 2 Chainz, Christina Milian and more. Wayne also jumps on remixes of Beyonce's "Drunk in Love," Future's "Sh!t," Rae Sremmurd's "No Type," and more.
Original Story: Back in December, Lil Wayne tweeted some brutal frustrations with his label, Cash Money, after Tha Carter V was delayed yet again. (It was originally scheduled to drop on May 5, 2014—almost nine months ago.) It sounded like Weezy would really split with his label of nearly 20 years and break ties with his adoptive father-figure and mentor, Bryan "Birdman" Williams.
Whether Tha Carter V would follow any time soon wasn't—and still isn't—clear. It seemed like we might be due for a sequel to Sorry 4 the Wait—the wacky, fun 2011 mixtape that preceded the also-long-delayed Carter IV—in the meantime.
And that wound up being exactly the case. Sorry 4 the Wait 2 got announced a week ago, along with a powerful, freewheeling remix of "Sh!t," a cut by Weezy's buddy Future. Wayne referenced his label feud — “Did my time at Cash Money / Time served and released, but this agent ain’t free" — and his frustrations with having to sit on what's positioned to be a classic entry in his Carter series. “I’m bumpin’ Carter V on the iPod," Wayne rapped, "My bitch mad as hell ’cause it ain’t out yet / She said soon as these ni**as see your new shit / They gon’ have to give their styles back."
Finally, a new preview video titled "I'm So Sorry" hit YouTube over the weekend. Lil Wayne serves up some smoky flow over ILoveMakonnen's "Maneuvering," while his Henny-sipping companion rocks a tee for TrukFit, Wayne's skate-gear company. "Sorry for the wait, the confusion, the disturbance," he raps. At the end, in that pretty cursive font, Weezy promises one thing: Tuesday.
So yeah, Tuesday. Tonight. January 20; 10pm. (The mixtape hub DatPiff has a countdown timer going.) Dare we hope that Weezy will remix one of 2014's hottest hits, ILoveMakonnen's "Tuesday," to mark the date? His buddy Drizzy Drake did hop on that track, too. Recent Wayne mixtape remixes have included Adele's "Rolling in the Deep," Wu-Tang Clan's "C.R.E.A.M.," Kendrick Lamar's "Bitch Don't Kill My Vibe," Beyoncé's "Run the World (Girls)," Drake's "Marvins Room," and Kanye West's "Mercy" and "New Slaves."
