The 2015 Oscar nominations have been announced, and while Selma was noticeably snubbed from a number of honors at this years' Academy Awards, the stunning song topping its soundtrack is getting the attention it deserves.
John Legend and Common's "Glory" from the civil rights movement epic is nominated for Best Original Song, as is Tegan and Sara and The Lonely Island's collaboration for The Lego Movie, "Everything Is Awesome." Weirdly enough, Lana Del Rey's "Big Eyes" from Tim Burton's surreal flick of the same title is missing from the list. This is a huge bummer as her contribution to its soundtrack was pretty stunning. (She's good enough for the Golden Globes but not the Academy? C'mon, Hollywood!)
If "Glory" takes home the statue on February 22, this will be a second win for Legend and Common this awards season: They won the Golden Globe for Best Original Song earlier this week, and Common's poignant acceptance speech reflected the gravity of the moment, the film that inspired it and the gorgeous composition they brought to the big picture table.
Here's hoping we'll get to hear the mega producer and the R&B crooner take the podium once again to sing the praises of "Glory." In the meantime, check out Selma and the other Oscar nominees in theaters before the big show.
