Bradley Cooper is negotiating a deal with Warner Bros. that would land the Oscar nominee his first directing/acting gig. The American Sniper star is angling to helm and act in the remake of A Star Is Born, a project that has been in development for years. Once the ink's dry, Cooper is expected to approach Beyoncé to play the female lead in the film (which isn't news—she's been in the mix for this for ages).
One can't help but wonder if this whole thing was cooked up by Cooper so that he could make out with Queen Bey in an internet-breaking love scene. It certainly wouldn't be the first time the former Sexiest Man Alive got to swap spit with a world famous beauty—Jennifer Lawrence, Scarlett Johansson and Sienna Miller are just a few of the actresses Cooper has had the pleasure of playing tonsil hockey with on the big screen.
Both Cooper and Beyoncé were previously attached to the remake when Clint Eastwood was set to direct it. The newest reboot of A Star Is Born will be scripted by Cooper and Will Fetters (The Best of Me, The Lucky One). (Fun fact: Bey's husband had a song on The Blueprint 3 called "A Star Is Born," featuring then-nascent Roc Nation signee J. Cole.) Beyoncé's last acting credit (not counting the voice work in 2013's Epic) was Obsessed, where she costarred with Idris Elba.
The story of a young woman whose dreams to become a singing star are realized with the help of a faded male icon, the original version of A Star Is Born was directed by William Wellman in 1937. Since then the film has been remade twice more, the most recent version starring Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson in 1976.
