Cirque du Soleil Is Debuting an 'Avatar'-Themed Show This Year
Prepare the money-printing machines: The biggest movie of all time, James Cameron's $2.79 billion-grossing Avatar, is becoming a Cirque du Soleil show. Slashfilm reports that TORUK – The First Flight will premiere this fall. A press release explains:
TORUK – The First Flight envisions a world beyond imagination set thousands of years before the events depicted in the film. The word Toruk, in the Na’vi language, refers to the great leonopteryx, the mighty red and orange predator that rules the Pandoran sky. Central in Na’vi lore and culture, this fascinating creature is crucial to the Na’vi clans’ sense of destiny and interconnectedness – and is about to be ridden for the very first time by a Na’vi.
Director James Cameron's Lightstorm Entertainment is coproducing the show. (Think he's eyeing a Titanic show somewhere down the line? A Terminator/Cirque trilogy?) TORUK will open as a touring production; dates are available here. Check out a teaser below:
