Update II (5/26): We learned back in April, it seemed positive that Nicki Minaj and boyfriend/musical collaborator Meek Mill—the cutest pairing aside from Nicki and Beyoncé—were engaged. (See the details, including a half-a-million-dollar ring, below.) Now, in a FADER cover story, Mill downplays the development, denying that the bling was an engagement totem. “It’s definitely real,” Meek says of he and Nick, “but it ain’t really time to get married yet. We’re still learning each other, feeling each other out.” Side note: once the engagement story started circulating, even Meek's grandmother congratulated him.
Also congratulatory on the non-gagement: T.I. The wonderful part of the profile goes:
"I ain’t engaged,' Meek says sheepishly, but T.I. isn’t having any of it. "You never asked her, ‘Will you be my girlfriend?' But she is your girlfriend,” he says. “You may not have asked her, ‘Will you marry me?’ But you are engaged.” Meek shrugs, unable to argue with this logic. “I’ve said my part,” T.I. says, backing away with his hands up. “As long as you know what’s going on.”
Meeki Millnaj (is that an okay couple name??) also have two collaborations—"Bad" and "All Eyes on You"—set for Meek's sophomore studio LP, Dreams Worth More Than Money. One is (or both are) produced by Bangladesh, the wiseman who gave us Lil Wayne's "A Milli" and "6 Foot 7 Foot," Beyoncé's "Diva" and Nicki's "Did It On'em." The FADER piece offers a great fly-on-the-wall account of Meek and Nick scheming in the studio together. “Your voice sounds ill, the flow sounds ill,” says Onika. “This is going to get played on the radio. It’s a no-brainer.”
Update I (4/16): Nicki Minaj has shared a photo of what appears to be a gigantic, heart-shaped engagement ring. Still no official comment on whether she's indeed marrying Meek Mill, but a source tells E! it's true. (And a jeweler says the ring is probably worth $500,000.)
Original Story (4/15): Nicki Minaj and Meek Mill moved past "rumored couple/possible publicity stunt couple" awhile ago, turning into a real item, showing tons of public PDA, doing performances together. Nicki's even taking him on her two-month Pinkprint Tour as a support act alongside Tinashe, Rae Sremmurd and Dej Loaf, too.
It looks like tickets to those shows just got a lot more valuable, though, since the two are probably engaged. Nicki's hinting at it on Twitter, unless she just wants us to know she got a regular old non-engagement diamond:
Meek hasn't said anything about it yet, but last night he acknowledged a fan's comment that he's a lucky dude:
Things have turned around quickly for Nicki in the romance department. The Pinkprint, released in December, was largely an album mourning (and saying peace to) her longtime relationship with Safaree Samuels.
Anyway, hang tight while we figure out whether wedding bells are in the future or not. Just waiting for Nicki to text us back...
