The Emmys announced their 2015 nominees on Thursday. Game of Thrones, American Horror Story: Freak Show, and HBO's Bessie (starring Queen Latifah) and Olive Kitteridge lead the pack; Mad Men, House of Cards and Transparent aren't far behind.
Also snatching up some love is Ms. Katy Perry, whose Super Bowl XLIX halftime show got nominated for Outstanding Short-Format Live-Action Entertainment Program. Perry hasn't won a GRAMMY yet, so it'll be interesting if she grabs an Emmy on her first try. KP's competition comes from Billy on the Street, Key & Peele, Childrens Hospital and Between Two Ferns with Zach Galifianakis.
Meanwhile Dave Grohl has received noms for his Foo Fighters miniseries Sonic Highways. The categories he's included in are Outstanding Informational Series Or Special and Outstanding Directing For Nonfiction Programming. The series is also in the Grohl-less running for nonfiction sound editing and sound mixing awards.
Queen Latifah's turn in Bessie scored her a nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie. She'll square off against Felicity Huffman (American Crime), Jessica Lange (American Horror Story: Freak Show), Maggie Gyllenhaal (The Honorable Woman), Frances McDormand (Olive Kitteridge) and Emma Thompson (Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street).
Frances Bean Cobain also got an Oustanding Documentary or Nonfiction Special look for executive producing Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck.
