This is Lil Wayne's year, we're just living in it, loving it, admiring it, jumping up and down about it. The latest power play came when he won the Fourth of July with the Free Weezy Album, straight auditory fireworks filled with the shocking, stunning, clever lines that made us fall in love with the dude way back when. (Also FWA's stacked with #sickbeats, like the philosopher Taylor Swift once said and then copyrighted.)
Now: Lil WeezyAna! A Lil Wayne-made, Lil Wayne-featuring festival set in Tunechi's hometown of New Orleans. It's going down August 28 at Bold Sphere Music at Champions Square. Manager Cortez Bryant posted the flier (pictured below) on Instagram, saying, "We coming home to give the city the greatest concert ever!"
Which will be true no matter what, but especially once Nicki Minaj and Drake—who's been favored by Wayne appearances at his own annual hometown event, Toronto's OVO Fest, several times—announce that they're coming. Wayne's new Tidal business partner Jay Z are confirmed. (Tyga can come, too, what the hell.)
Stereogum notes that Dr. Carter had the following to say in an interview with Q93.3 FM's DJ Wild Wayne:
“I’m coming home to give my city a real show for all its support, and I’m bringing some of my good friends in the industry. Please come out, enjoy yourself, lose your mind. I will find it for you later, and return it back.”
Wayne also said a portion of the ticket sales revenue will go "back to the city."
New Orleans paper of record the Times-Picayune reports that the first confirmed act is a Hot Boys reunion, meaning Juvenile and Turk will hit the stage with Weezy F. Baby. Cash Money Records in-house producer hero Mannie Fresh will fill in for B.G., who started a 14-year prison sentence in 2012.
No other artists have been announced yet, but there'll definitely skateboarding at this thing. It's all Wayne does, other than rap. Look out, Skate and Surf Festival.
