Sum 41's Deryck Whibley Performs for First Time Post-Hospitalization

Update (7/6): Great news, Sum 41 fans! Deryck Whibley performed live for the first time post-hospitalization on July 3rd and absolutely smashed it...with My Chemical Romance bassist Mikey Way by his side. Watch the guys tackle "Fat Lip" at Santa Ana's Constellation Room, above.

Original Story (7/1): He's back, y'all! Sum 41's Deryck Whibley is going solo for a few dates this July. If you're a California resident able to hit up the June 3 date at Santa Ana's Constellation Room, June 5 at San Diego's Casbah or June 7 at Los Angeles' Lyric Theatre, you're in for a real treat: Mikey Way, My Chemical Romance bassist and badass bro to Gerard Way, will be joining the Canadian pop-punk icon onstage.

The only downside? These aren't Sum 41 gigs per se, but under the moniker Deryck Whibley and the Happiness Machines. He's supposed to be playing the jams we know and love, though. "Fat Lip" and "In Too Deep" will show up if we're lucky...

Those of us who've been following Whibley know he's been in and out of hospitals following years of binge drinking and alcohol addiction. This is a huge step in recovery, and we're totally stoked for the frontman.
