Long Island emo icons Taking Back Sunday won the philanthropy award at the 2015 Alternative Press Awards, one detailing their decade-long work with the American Cancer Society. The guys were pretty excited to tell us all about the organization, and we're so stoked they won. Check out the conversation below.

Happy APMAs!

Adam Lazzara, vocalist: Here we are. It's a magical and enchanting evening.

You're up for best vocalist.

Adam: Yeah I'm not gonna win though because we're not one of the younger bands here.

John Nolan, guitar: You don't think you're gonna win?

Adam: Hell no.

Are you insinuating that this is an ageist ceremony?

Adam: No! It's ageless.

You're also up for the Philanthropy Award for your work with the American Cancer Society. How'd you get involved with the organization?

Adam: With that what we try to do—each one of us has been effected by cancer in our families. Every year around Christmas time we try to do a show or create a special item or something and try to donate to help the research, to try and get it a little closer to a cure. It's really cool that we're in a place where we can raise money and just have the opportunity to do that.

How long have you been doing this?

Adam: I think we started in 2004 or 2005. We started with a holiday card and one year we did ornament the next, it just keeps growing.
