Laverne Cox has spent the last couple years stealing our hearts on Netflix's Orange Is the New Black, opening minds with her unflagging activism and giving a powerful voice to the underrepresented transgender community. And now she's landed the top slot in a Rocky Horror Picture Show remake coming to Fox, playing Dr. Frank-N-Furter, a character Tim Curry famously portrayed in the 1975 original film.
In an Instagram post about the announcement, the 31-year-old Cox wrote, "I am so excited that the news is out. I am so honored to be a part of the Rocky Horror legacy. #DontDreamItBeIt #TransIsBeautiful."
Deadline describes the new Rocky Horror as a "two-hour taped event...described as a reimagining of the 20th Century Fox cult classic, which last month marked 40 years of theatrical distribution—longer than any other film in history." Lou Adler, executive producer of the original flick and Cheech and Chong's Up in Smoke, is on board as well.
