Andy Serkis gave the movie motion-capture game a famous face as The Lord of the Rings’ Gollum; he also starred in Peter Jackson’s King Kong and Rise of the Planet of the Apes (as well as Dawn…) as Caesar. Now the Tracking Board has sources saying he’ll direct, produce and star in Steelskin, a Rumpelstiltskin tale that’s “tonally similar to Snow White and The Huntsman," which was, as these things always are these days, dark and gritty.
Nerdist notes that Serkis “explored his ability to direct action as the Second Unit Director on the three Hobbit films.” He’s also directing Jungle Book: Origins, Warner Bros. non-Disney remake of Rudyard Kipling’s classic tale.
Serkis’ next big role is in Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens, where he’ll play a character called Emperor (!) Snope. Steelskin is rumored to be scripted by Hossein Amini, who co-wrote Snow White and the Hunstman and solo penned Nicolas Winding Refn’s Ryan Gosling–starring Drive.
