Back on Dec. 6, the 38th annual Kennedy Center Honors celebrated, among others, O.G. singer-songwriter Carole King. Paying musical tribute to her were Janelle Monáe, longtime collaborator James Taylor, Sara Bareilles and performers from Broadway's Beautiful.
Plus Aretha Franklin. Who gave everyone a totally unnecessary but amazingly powerful reminder of why she's the queen of soul with a piano-and-fur-coat rendition of “(You Make Me Feel Like A) Natural Woman." Disagree and Carole King will knock you out.
Hard to tell what's the most moving about this video: Franklin's performance, Carole King acting like the fan who's never seen her favorite act play and is now seeing that act bring out her all-time favorite song as the finale...or President Barack Obama wiping away a tear less than a minute into the tune. Of course the Prez could easily say "I just had something in my eye," but since when did that explanation ever fly?
