The Wiz Live! brought in massive ratings for NBC on Thursday night (Dec. 3), with the live broadcast easily surpassing last year’s Peter Pan Live! show, according to early ratings.

Per Variety, The Wiz averaged a 4.4 rating in the coveted 18-49 demographic, which marks NBC’s best Thursday primetime showing since the 2009 finale of ER (excluding the Olympics). Although The Wiz blew by Peter Pan, early numbers show that the heights of The Sound of Music Live! broadcast in 2013 were not reached.

The three-hour show included newcomer Shanice Williams in the starring role, along with Mary J. Blige, Queen Latifah, Common, Ne-Yo and David Alan Grier all playing supporting roles. Harvey Fierstein wrote the music for the broadcast.

The Wiz Live! soundtrack is now on iTunes, and a more complete ratings breakdown will be available later on Friday.
