British actor Alan Rickman has passed away, it's been confirmed by the BBC. Rickman was 69 years old.
"The actor and director Alan Rickman has died from cancer at the age of 69. He was surrounded by family and friends," a statement reads.
Rickman was best-known for his roles in Die Hard, as the villain Hans Gruber, and in the Harry Potter series as the implacable Professor Snape. Other notable films include Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, Sense and Sensibility, Love Actually and Galaxy Quest.
In 1996 he won both an Emmy and Golden Globe for his role on the miniseries Rasputin: Dark Servant of Destiny. Rickman's voice will be heard in the upcoming film Alice Through The Looking Glass.
