René Angélil, Celine Dion’s husband and longtime mentor, has died at the age of 73, People has confirmed. Angélil passed away after battling cancer.
"Rene Angelil, 73, passed away this morning as his home in Las Vegas after a long and courageous battle against cancer," a rep for Angélil said in a statement. "The family requests that their privacy be respected at the moment; more details will be provided at a later time."
Late last year, Dion gave an update on Angélil’s battle with cancer, which was discovered to be terminal, on Good Morning America. “I’ve been very amazed all my life about my husband. That’s why I married him,” the singer said.
Angélil and Dion share three children, 14-year-old René-Charles and 5-year-old twins Nelson and Eddy. He also has three children, Anne-Marie, Patrick and Jean-Pierre, from a previous relationship.
