As Fuller House anticipators know very well by now, the original cast of the beloved sitcom is reuniting for the reboot, except for Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. In a new cover story for People, the cast and creators of the upcoming Netflix series explain why fans will not be seeing any of Michelle Tanner on Fuller House.
"Ashley said, I have not been in front of a camera since I was 17 and I don't feel comfortable acting," says executive producer Bob Boyett. "Mary-Kate said, It would have to be me because Ash doesn't want to do it. But the timing is so bad for us."
Indeed, the 29-year-old Olsen twins have been busy running a fashion empire in New York City instead of keeping up with their acting careers. Michelle Tanner is written off in Fuller House with a similar backstory, and the cast says that they understand why the twins did not want to reprise the role they took on at nine months old in 1987.
"They're family members," says Dave Coulier. "But I think they have a different perspective. When we get together and we reminisce, they were babies [at the time]. So they don't share those same memories. I can't really speak for them but I would understand why they don't have the same sentiments that we all do."
