Now that Star Wars is back and never disappearing, one of the planned non-Episode movies is a Han Solo-starring prequel set for a May 2018 release. The actor primed to take over the role Harrison Ford made famous has not been selected yet, but sources tell Variety that a shortlist has been formed, with names that include some of Hollywood’s finest young actors.
Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort, Dave Franco, Jack Reynor, Scott Eastwood, Logan Lerman, Emory Cohen and Blake Jenner are the actors listed in the report. Teller is best-known for the Oscar-winning Whiplash, Elgort starred in The Fault In Our Stars, Dave Franco comes from 21 Jump Street and Neighbors, and Eastwood has appeared in multiple films from his father, Clint.
The young Solo will be the headliner of the as-yet-untitled prequel, but could also appear in Rogue One, the Star Wars film due out this December. That spin-off film is set between Episodes III and IV, so a youthful Solo could very well pop up.
The Han Solo film begins shooting in January 2017, while Rogue One comes out Dec. 16, 2016.
