Drake is in his hometown of Toronto this week for the NBA All-Star weekend. As part of the festivities, the rapper is coaching team Canada in the All-Star Celebrity Game. He's also getting all cozy with the city's top elected official.
Drizzy received the key to Toronto from Mayor John Tory, which isn't a literal key to anything really, but more of a token of gratitude from his hometown, which he constantly references in his lyrics. Drake was all smiles as Mayor Tory presented him with the large, shiny object at half-court before the Celebrity All-Star Game at the Air Canada Centre on Friday evening.
The Mayor too was all gushy about bestowing Drake with high honors, and tweeted an adorable pic of the moment:
As per the Toronto Star, Drake had this to say of his award:
“This is one of the greatest moments of my life, if not the greatest. We have something extremely special in this place. I will never stop loving this city. I will never stop representing this city.”
Up until the All-Star game, Drake had been engaging in some flashy guerrilla-marketing to promote his new album Views from the 6. There's some not-so-inconspicuous billboards throughout Toronto plugging the album.
