Elton John organized a free concert in Los Angeles that also served as a thank you to West Hollywood. The surprise concert took place outside of Tower Records on the Sunset Strip and was live-streamed on AOL.com.
John gave thanks to the city of West Hollywood for supporting his AIDS foundation and his annual Academy Awards Viewing party. In a statement given prior, he said, “We are profoundly grateful for their generous support, so I wanted to do something special just for them by giving our West Hollywood fans and supporters a surprise concert. Thank you, West Hollywood!”
Performing hits like “Rocket Man” and “Tiny Dancer,” Elton John was also joined by Lady Gaga for a special duet of “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me.”
At the end of their performance, Lady Gaga gave her own thank you, as well. “Give it up for this wonderful man who has inspired people for generations,” she said. “Wonderful Crazy Night is a beautiful record and thank you so much for the Elton John AIDS Foundation.”
