At the Iowa caucus on Monday night, Democratic presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders—supported in concert over the weekend by Killer Mike, Vampire Weekend and Foster the People—walked off to some David Bowie.
At the end of his speech (hit the 16:30 mark above), the Vermont senator smiled and waved to the tune of “Starman,” the late singer’s signature 1972 cut off The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars.
PBS wrote on Sunday of a rally where Sanders picked the same music. “He takes selfies along the rope line as David Bowie’s ‘Starman’ blares over the loudspeakers and now weaves quips into his long-winded speeches,” PBS said.
Hillary Clinton edged out Bernie Sanders in Iowa by what most sources are reporting as a fraction of a percent.
