At the end of a frenetic media week, Kanye West delivered with his Saturday Night Live musical appearance, performing “Highlights” and "Ultralight Beam" from his heavily hyped studio album The Life of Pablo. El Debarge, Kelly Price, Kirk Franklin, Young Thug and The-Dream were among Yeezy's guests for his first of two SNL songs, "Highlights," which was set in front of an old-school video game backdrop.
Ye premiered the track earlier this week at his fashion week show for the Yeezy Season 3 line, which also served as a listening party for the new album. "Highlights" includes multiple N-words and F-words...which aired on NBC when Kanye performed the track.
Later, "Ultralight Beam" (above) included a stirring, soulful appearance from Kelly Price and a frenetic Chance The Rapper verse during which Kanye bounced along gleefully. At the end of the performance, West frantically announced that his new album, The Life of Pablo, was out on his web site—which didn't prove exactly true. While his site remained fixed on a voicemail from a politically troubled Yasiin Bey/Mos Def, Tidal.com finally started streaming the album 40 minutes after the SNL performance.
