Swans’ Michael Gira Accused of Rape, Calls Allegation a ‘Slanderous Lie’

Michael Gira, the leader of the experimental post-punk band Swans, has been accused of rape by singer-songwriter Larkin Grimm, a charge which he vehemently denies.

In a Facebook post on Thursday (Feb. 25), Grimm writes that Gira raped her in the spring of 2008, calling the incident “an absolute tragedy” and describing the assault in detail. After confronting Gira, Grimm claims that he dropped her from his Young God record label. Read below:

Hours after the post went up, Gira responded, also with a Facebook post. He called her words “horrible accusations” and “lies.” His wife, Jennifer, also posted that Grimm was lying:

The 62-year-old Gira has won rave reviews for his work with Swans, most recently on 2012’s The Seer and 2014’s To Be Kind. Grimm released her Parplar album on Young God in 2008.
