The U.S.-pop and K-pop worlds are getting further into bed with one another in 2016. After Skrillex co-produced a new single for girl group 4Minute, Bruno Mars is getting in on the action by penning a single for Taemin.
A member of longtime boy band favorite SHINee, Taemin's new solo joint "Press Your Number" opens with sensual guitar and synths. From there it jumps into some electro-soul production that sounds suited for Bruno's slick tenor and also fits Taemin just as nicely. The sound comes courtesy of production team The Stereotypes, who have worked on everything from Danity Kane's "Damaged" to Justin Bieber's "Somebody to Love" and even SHINee's "Odd Eye."
Released with the single, the video for "Press My Number" is a vibrant, violent affair that sees the superstar robbing a gas station, crashing his car, tied up in his mansion, and kidnapped and stashed in a car trunk filled with blue roses. It all gets a bit hazy for Taemin as he has hallucinations that he's robbing himself and he's crashing his car with himself as the passenger, amid clips of super-stylized choreography.
"Press My Number" is the lead single off Taemin's first solo album, Press It. Interestingly enough, Press It marks the first time a boy band or girl group member has released a full-length under SM Entertainment—the Korean super label that's also home to favorites like Girls' Generation, EXO, and f(x).
