Yesterday we reported that Tumblr is heading down to the music portion of SXSW to throw the 79 Cents event, a feminism-themed event. As The Verge wrote, the number reflects the gender wage gap in the U.S. in 2014, according to the Institute for Women’s Policy Research, and almost all of the musicians playing identify as female...with the exception of Crystal Castles, who were scheduled to headline the gig.

Actual feminists from all corners of the Internet were outraged with the decision, as founding frontwoman of the duo, Alice Glass, left the band in 2014 after saying she left "mistreated and manipulated" by producer Ethan Kath. She told The Verge, "As someone who knew Ethan Kath on a personal and professional level, it is my opinion that he is not an appropriate artist to be performing at a feminism-centric event." It appears Tumblr has listened and the band will no longer close out the show.

A Tumblr representative shared the following statement:

"We've removed Crystal Castles from the lineup of the 79 Cents party. We don't know the facts around comments made about a member of the band, and we're not going to engage in an investigation around it. We're hosting this event to highlight gender disparity issues, something that Tumblr and our community cares deeply about, and we don't want the band's presence to distract from this important mission."

Now we'll have to wait and see who they book to close out the night. In the meantime, take our quiz: Which Music Festival Is Right For You?
