A little more than six weeks after hitting theaters, Deadpool has become the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time. The Ryan Reynolds–starring Marvel flick stands at nearly $746 million worldwide. The previous record-holder was The Matrix Reloaded, which earned $742 million in 2003.

Collider notes what a huge success this is for a film that "wasn’t an adaptation of something that was already massively popular to general audiences nor a sequel."

Deadpool will soon pass the No. 2 R-rated movie domestically, American Sniper, which raked in $350.1 million in 2014. Its next target will be The Passion of the Christ, which nabbed $370.8 million in '03.
