Ready for a flood of "R-rated Toy Story" analogies? Because Sausage Party—featuring the voices of Seth Rogen, Kristen Wiig, Edward Norton, Jonah Hill, Michael Cera and James Franco—is nearly upon us. (Well, sorta. It's out Aug. 12, but it got screened at SXSW this week.)
A two-minute, curse-strewn trailer shows us how the flick—starring a hot dog named Frank—will revolve around talking foods discovering the scary fate their kind are all bound for. And, of course, rallying to deny destiny its frankfurters and baby carrots. The preview's got a lot of f-bombs, graphic human-on-food decimation, weed smoke and some Snoop Dogg bars.
Sausage Party also features the voices of Bill Hader, Salma Hayek, Craig Robinson, Paul Rudd and Danny McBride. It's interesting to note it's produced by Annapurna Pictures, the highly choosy company behind Oscar-nominated movies like Zero Dark Thirty, American Hustle and Her.
The co-directors, Greg Tiernan and Conrad Vernon, are children's content veterans, with Tiernan having helmed a mind-boggling amount of Thomas & Friends episodes.
