When Rihanna announced her ANTI World Tour in November, it wasn't just thrilling to know she was a) hitting the road again and b) probably about to serve up her crazy-long-awaited seventh album. It was also crazy to see she'd be bringing three artists as big and as solid as The Weeknd, Big Sean, Travis Scott. The latter two are on the North American leg, which started Feb. 26 and runs through May 7. The Weeknd is—well, was, as of now—set to open on the European portion.
Two and a half months before ANTI World Tour is set to land in Amsterdam, The Weeknd has bailed. A Live Nation statement simply says, "Due to some unforeseen changes with upcoming projects, The Weeknd will no longer be joining Rihanna on her upcoming international 'Anti' World Tour."
So what's really going on here? Is The Weeknd rushing out his follow-up to August 2015's Beauty Behind the Madness? Is he just too cool to be seen as an opener? Is he upset Rihanna smokes more weed than him? Is he spending all his time courting Lauryn Hill for a joint album after that chilling one-off collabo? Only The Weeknd and Rihanna know for now.
