'Batman: The Killing Joke' Trailer: The Joker's R-Rated Origin Story Is Coming

The first trailer for Batman: The Killing Joke is here, and the R-rated animated feature looks just as grim as the graphic novel that presaged it. We're given plenty of action sequences from the square-jawed Batman and manically laughing Joker, who are both out to settle old scores and do plenty of battle in the process. Watch the trailer above.

Batman: The Killing Joke tells the Joker's origin story as a struggling comedian turned notorious villain, and Batman's crusade to foil his evil schemes. As the first R-rated movie from Warner Bros. Animation, Batman: Killing Joke was drawn from a graphic novel of the same name, written by Watchmen/V for Vendetta author Alan Moore and published in 1988. As for the film, Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill will reprise their respective roles as Batman and the Joker, which they originally held on Batman: The Animated Series throughout the early '90s.

As the film is slated to premiere at this year's San Diego Comic Con, you can probably count on many a cos-player showing up to the event in the Joker's super-villain garb. Cue the Hyena laughs.
