Best Coast’s Bethany Cosentino took to Twitter to denounce Chris Brown’s song “Back to Sleep” for its troubling lyrics that Cosentino suggest are reflective of rape culture at large. The lyrics that are especially distressing are in the chorus, when Brown sings, “Just let me rock, fuck you back to sleep girl. Don’t say a word no, don’t you talk.”
“Back to Sleep” was included on Brown’s 2015 album Royalty, but more recently it was given a remix treatment that featured contributions from both Usher and Zayn Malik.
