Last night at his album launch party, Drake revealed large numbers for the projected number of albums sold for his fourth studio album VIEWS.
"I got a text message that we sold like 630,000 some records in one night," Drake told the crowd at his launch party. "That's the first time I've ever done that shit, so thank you very much." Billboard confirmed with sources at Republic Records that over 630,000 units were sold on Apple Music and iTunes.
It’s really exciting news for Drake, especially when his album will most likely sell more than 800,000 copies in its first week of release in the U.S. Complex pointed out that the exceptionally high number may be due to a policy change with RIAA. The new rule includes streaming to album’s overall sales, even when those streams came before VIEWS release. So Drake may have possibly banked on releasing early singles like “Hotline Bling,” “Pop Style” and “One Dance” months before VIEWS came out.
