Update (4/8, 11:20 a.m.): Stereogum is in serious doubt, sharing other Instagram posts from the hang (also featuring D'Angelo, Queen Latifah and Q-Tip) that seem to cast the moment as a simple hang-out, not a recording session. Hmm...
Original story (4/8, 10 a.m.): In January, André 3000 let the world know he's "been holding [back] for a long time, so now I’m really interested in figuring out some type of music to do," adding that he's "always recording" and that he'd like to put something out at some point here.
So Jack White, A Tribe Called Quest's Jarobi White, D-Nice and Dave Chappelle are...working on...a new André 3000...SOLO ALBUM? The idea got us so excited that we didn't even take a second to remember Chris Rock's day job, but HotNewHipHop woke us up to the possibility of social media shenanigans with the headline, "Chris Rock Says Andre 3000 Working On New Album, Can't Tell If Joke."
Very fair. And yet, Mr. Benjamin has been close with the A Tribe Called Quest fam lately. Following the death of Phife Dawg at age 41, Three Stacks appeared on Q-Tip's Abstract Radio Show and took part in a celebration of Phife's life at Harlem's Apollo Theater. Seems like the type of stuff that could inspire new music, no?
