Prince's backing band, The Revolution, which officially played on three of the recently-deceased icon's records before disbanding in 1986, is getting back together to play shows. The announcement was delivered in a video via BrownMark's Facebook page, in which the group explained their intentions to re-form after "grieving over the loss of Prince" for "three or four days." Watch as group member Wendy Melvoin explains in the video above.
The Revolution appeared as Prince's backing band on the albums Purple Rain (1984), Around the World in a Day (1985) and Parade (1986). The group formed in 1979 and underwent many lineup changes throughout its existence, but always erred on the side of diversity by incorporating a cadre of multi-cultural and mixed-gender musicians. There is no official date as to when The Revolution will take to the stage again, but as Melvoin explains in the video, impending shows should be happening "soon."
