Rihanna was presented with the honorable Rock Star Award at the 10th annual Black Girls Rock! Awards, which aired Tuesday night (April 5) on BET. The "Kiss It Better" starlet took the stage in a floor-length fur coat fit for a diva, before accepting the honor with a touching speech that centered on self-acceptance:
“You know, role model isn’t the title they like to give me. But that’s why tonight is so important to me because I can inspire a lot of young women to be themselves and that is half the battle. I mean that is it. Just be yourselves, it’s the easiest thing to be. I love you guys, all girls rock, black girls, we just on another level.”
Other honorees of the night included Hunger Games star Amandla Stenberg, Gladys Knight, Black Lives Matter creators Alicia Garza, Opal Tometi and Patrisse Cullors as well as Shonda Rhimes (the force behind popular ABC shows like Scandal and Grey's Anatomy).
