Afeni Shakur, the mother of iconic rapper Tupac Shakur, has passed away at the age of 69.
WSB-TV reports that the Marin County Sheriff’s Department in California confirmed Shakur's death, which occurred late Monday night (May 2). Shakur was taken to a local hospital after a report of possible cardiac arrest came from her home in Sausalito; she was pronounced dead at 10:28 p.m. on Monday night.
Shakur's son, Tupac, died at the age of 25 in 1996 after achieving international fame.
Afeni Shakur opened the Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation in Georgia in 1997. She also delivered several lectures and addresses at schools and colleges following her son's death.
