'Captain America: Civil War' Is On Track for One of the Biggest Opening Weekends Ever
Thanks to a huge turnout for late Thursday night and Friday showings, Captain America: Civil War is projected to rake in a serious amount of cash that has it shouldering up against some other major blockbusters in the Best Opening Weekend Ever category.
Variety reports that Civil War will bring in $180 million in its first weekend in theaters, which makes this the fifth-best opening weekend for a motion picture. That also means Marvel holds the majority of the top five spots on this list: In first place is Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($248 million) followed by Jurassic World ($208.8 million), and then The Avengers ($207.4 million) and Avengers: Age of Ultron ($191.3 million) before Civil War.
