Marvel fans are just now sinking their teeth into Captain America: Civil War, but the superhero pile-up is just setting the stage for the two-part Avengers: Infinity War saga, set to begin in May 2018. And, hey, look at that, another hugely popular Marvel character could be making her debut in that one: Captain Marvel, known at one point as Ms. Marvel.
According to ComicBook.com, Joe and Anthony Russo—the brothers who directed Civil War, and who will direct the Avengers: Infinity War films—let it slip during a promotional event at the Smithsonian Institute that Captain Marvel will be involved in the next Avengers. When a fan followed up on the gaffe, one of the Russos replied, "Um....Captain Barvel. Totally different character." He’s probably lying!
A Captain Marvel film is in the works for a March 2019 release, so her debut in Avengers: Infinity War in May 2018 makes sense from a timing standpoint. Captain Marvel is also one of the biggest female superheroes in the Marvel Comics Universe, and the first one to officially get a standalone film.
