Donnie Trumpet and the Social Experiment's Surf earned plaudits last year for fusing genres and breaking barriers. Trumpet unearthed one of Surf's forgotten cuts on Saturday night (May 28), sharing the winding, 11-minute "The First Time" to commemorate the album's one-year anniversary. Among Surf's most prominent contributors was Chance the Rapper, who features heavily on the jazz-inflected, new song.

Trumpet noted in a description on Soundcloud that "this is a collection of unused Surf pieces, an ode to the era." He also extended some gratitude to fans, saying "thank you to everyone who's still listening and growing with the music." When it released last year, Surf made waves, as it offered a glut of collaborations with contributing artists, including J. ColeJanelle MonáeBig SeanJeremihErykah BaduBusta RhymesB.o.B. and Noname Gypsy.

As Rolling Stone points out, last year's standout collaboration between Chance and Social Experiment has set forward a strong relationship: The Chicago MC's Coloring Book lists the collective as producer on eight of the album's 14 tracks.
