And the next Zorro is—insert drumroll here please—Gael García Bernal! The Mexican actor is officially revealed to take on the famous masked swashbuckler role in an upcoming reboot titled Z. The film will have a futuristic spin, which may or may not mean that Zorro could be trading in his horse for a hoverboard.
According to Deadline, Mexican director Jonás Cuarón (Gravity, Desierto) has also hopped on the project. He first brought up the idea in Berlin's European Film Market and it will now be taken to Cannes Film Festival later this month.
There is no set release date for Z as of now, but it will begin filming at Pinewood Dominican Republic studios this fall. Z follows 2005's The Legend of Zorro, which starred Antonio Banderas as Zorro and Catherine Zeta-Jones as his wife Eléna de la Vega.
