For the last few years, movie fans have resumed going boldly going where no one has gone before. But Star Trek's now ready to return to its original home, Planet Television. (The last series, Enterprise, wrapped its four-year run in 2005.)
At CBS' upfront presentation on Wednesday, the new series from writer/producer Bryan Fuller (Hannibal, Star Trek: Voyager, Heroes) got its nostalgia-chill-inducing teaser. You won't see new footage, but you'll find yourself tumbling through a variety of space environments and being teased, "New Crews. New Villains. New Heroes. New Worlds."
Then comes the classic music, and then the new logo.
CBS is pulling an interesting gambit with the new Star Trek, premiering the series on TV in January 2017, then airing ensuing episodes exclusively on the new streaming platform CBS All Access.
No cast members have been revealed, but Alex Kurtzman (Alias, Sleepy Hollow, the upcoming reboot of The Mummy), is is an executive producer, and The Wrath of Khan director Nicholas Meyer is writing and consulting.
