The Weeknd took home eight trophies at the 2016 Billboard Music Awards on Sunday night (May 22), but the real winners were the vocalists who blew us away.
Demi Lovato, Rihanna and Ariana Grande showed us true, unadulterated talent when they belted out their respective performances, leaving us, as they would say on the Internet, slayed. Meanwhile, The Weeknd won Top R&B Song, Top Hot 100 Artist, Top Song Sales Artist, Top Streaming Songs Artist, Top Radio Songs Artist, Top R&B Artist, Top R&B Album and Top Streaming Song (Audio), but did not perform... and Sunday night was all about the performances.
Adele also won big--taking home the top prize of Top Artist and Top Billboard 200 Album and recording her acceptance speeches in little videos. Although she was "chuffed," girl is still on tour, and there's not a lot of time to squeeze in another award.
The most emotional moment of the night came when Céline Dion was honored with the Icon Award. She performed Queen's "The Show Must Go On" and accepted the award in tears as she held her son's hand and dedicated it to her late husband.
Kesha ended up performing a Bob Dylan song, after her set was canceled and then re-announced by Dr. Luke. Later, Madonna and Stevie Wonder played out the show with a tender tribute to the late Prince, ending the three-hour show with "Purple Rain."
