Anton Yelchin, the 27-year-old actor known for starring in director J.J. Abrams' Star Trek films, died early Sunday morning in a car accident, the Associated Press reports. The news was confirmed by his publicist, Jennifer Allen.
It is unclear how the accident occurred, although TMZ reports that Yelchin was found "pinned between his car and a brick mailbox," outside of his San Fernando Valley home at around 1 a.m. on Sunday. TMZ reports that the engine of Yelchin's car was running, and that the car was in a neutral position when his body was found, according to police.
The actor was seen as a rising talent in the film industry, having starred in the Star Trek blockbusters as the character Chekov. Yelchin was the only son of two Russian professional figure skaters. He was born in Russia, and was brought to the United States by his parents when he was a baby, notes the AP.
