James Villalobos’ passionate journalism skills helped him win the chance to report on the Republican National Convention for Fuse & Voto Latino’s special Crash The Parties initiative this summer. The CTP competition, which gives two young talents the chance to cover both 2016 National Conventions, had many entries, but James brought a mix of confidence and reporting chops that landed him the spot. You’ll see him in Cleveland covering the Republicans come July 18-21.
Villalobos may still be in college — he’s a senior studying journalism at the University of Massachusetts Amherst — but he’s already racked up a wide variety of professional experience reporting in the field.
Between his work for his college’s publication the Amherst Wire and his internships at WCVB Boston NewsCenter 5 and Western Mass News, he’s been on the scene covering the protests in Ferguson and Baltimore, the Sandy Hook Elementary shootings, and the Boston Marathon bombings. He has also reported from the White House twice. This rising reporter has been a member of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists since 2013.
What drives him? Giving a voice to the voiceless and telling stories that spark public dialogue.
Keep your eyes locked on Fuse.tv and CrashTheParties16.com this July as he and Crash The Parties DNC winner Arlene Santana bring you the goods from both parties’ conventions.
